IRA Charitable Rollover

Starting at age 70½, an IRA charitable rollover (also known as a "qualified charitable distribution" or "QCD") is a way you can help continue our work and benefit students. The IRA charitable rollover is available for transfers up to $100,000 even if you do not have to take a required minimum distribution (RMD) from your IRA this year.

Flowchart: Donor directs IRA custodian to make an IRA charitable rollover gift to CSULB.

Benefits of an IRA charitable rollover

  • Avoids taxes on transfers of up to $100,000 directly from your IRA to our CSULB
  • Satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year
  • Reduce your taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions
  • The gift is not subject to the deduction limits on charitable gifts
